Sometimes we all just need a lil bit of rebellion in our Tuesday. Sm Defiance Hoops & Sm Defiance Necklace, available in sustainable Brass and Silver.
While there are endless aspects of making jewelry that I truly love, my favorite, most beloved part is creating custom pieces for people that hold symbolic meaning in their design, in addition to their aesthetic beauty. Today is the birthday of a friend's incredible Momma. She is the mother of 4 kids, 1 who is fighting a powerful fight against cancer. I wanted to create something for her that captured the meaningful connected they have with one another. These are hand hammered 14k gold circles adorned with 4 different types of blue topaz (representing her kids), anchored by these brilliant white topaz briolettes (the Matriarch!). Hand hammering is a beautiful way to form and add sparkle to gold. With each blow of the hammer, the gold is strengthen by the strike, bringing the metal tighter and more bonded within itself. I love this technique, as not only does this make every single piece unique in its' hand formation, but it also is an alluring metaphor. Love, Connection, Family, Friendship. Each of these vulnerable & susceptible to the possible terrifying collision of tragedy, such as cancer, but with each blow comes the mark of a stronger link. As life's battles dent and mar us, they can also bring us closer to the ones we love the most, our core circles. Happy Birthday Catherine. I've been creating this special order for @norbu_bijoux for weeks, hand making each piece myself. From selecting to each tourmaline crystal to hand-hewning each 14k bezel, it's been one of the more intimate collections I've made in a long time. I have struggled with how long it feels it's taking me to complete, but I've also been combating those voices of self critique by relishing in the reality that hand making things, with quality as the center of each step, holds value in the amount of time it demands. I'm almost done and so excited to bring these fresh custom pieces to NYC! As I near the finishing steps, I'm aware of how much I will miss working on these pieces. Each one completely unique. I was putting the last polish on this Nebula Stud & caught myself turning it over in my hands, taking in the beauty of this black tourmaline's shape, it's jagged edge, swooning over the richness if the color in this blue tourmaline, thinking about how long it took the earth to grow these gems, wondering who will be the lucky wearer of this.... It's a meaningful relationship to have with each one of these beauties. I am SO grateful for my relationship w @norbu_bijoux and the blissful joy I receive from the honor of creating my work for them. 💖✨ I can't wait to share more of the collection I'm making for them as I start to have some finished gems to show you here.
