Built in 1929, the Waldorf-Astoria , a famous luxury hotel at 301 Park Avenue, was the largest hotel in the world at the time of it’s completion. John Jacob Astor IV, who built the Astoria Hotel, which later expanded to become the Waldorf-Astoria, died on Titanic, and his pregnant wife, Madeline survived the sinking. The private apartments of the Waldorf Towers, which has its own entrance on 50th Street, has seen many famous tenants from the Duke of Windsor, Herbert Hoover, Cole Porter, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Marilyn Monroe.
