Manhattan Landmark - Bryant Park Hotel
A gorgeous black granite and bronze arch decorates the entrance to the Bryant Park Hotel located on 40th street across from Bryant Park and the NYC public library. Built in 1924, the black brick on the frontage of the building (symbolizing coal) was selected to give an idea of solidity. Other parts of the facade were covered in gold bricks (symbolizing fire), and the entry was decorated with marble and black mirrors. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was painted by Georgia O'Keeffe in 1927 in her famous painting "The Radiator Building at Night."
